We preserve, share and research Ōtautahi Christchurch’s archaeological heritage for everyone to explore and use.

Ōtautahi Christchurch has a rich archaeological archive, owing to the incredible amount of archaeological work that took place following the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. On the one hand, this archive is a whole lot of raw data. On the other, it’s stories: stories about people and place and the past. It’s the story of how this city was built.

We’ve set up Christchurch Archaeology Project to preserve this archive, and to share it and what we learn from it via our research and the research of others. Most importantly, we want to ensure that the potential of this archive is realised. Take a look around the website to learn about CAP, the archive and what we’re up to. To keep up to date with our activities, sign up to our mailing list and follow us on social media. And, if you want to work with the archive, please get in touch!
